EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic modality that focuses on healing trauma and adverse life experiences. EMDR posits that the main source of psychopathology is the presence of adverse life events or traumas that have been inadequately processed. These unprocessed memories, which also include negative beliefs, sensations and emotions that occurred at the time of the event, can be triggered by current internal and external stimuli, leading to ongoing dysfunction. 

Individual Therapy 

In individual therapy, I provide a safe and empathetic environment. I utilize the integrative approach of EMDR therapy, attachment based therapy and mindfulness practices. With EMDR we will look at the themes and negative beliefs that have kept you stuck, along with identifying target memories and/or adverse life events that hold distress. We will reprocess these traumatic events and replace negative cognitions with positive ones. I will introduce mindfulness skills and self-compassion practices to help build awareness around trauma responses; along with helping you to increase healthy coping skills. 

Many of us have experienced some form of trauma. Trauma can refer to the psychological response to a stressful event that can impact a person's physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being. This can include events that are life  threatening or harmful. There are single event traumas (job loss, break ups, natural disaster) and/or events that occur and last over time (emotional, physical, sexual abuse, neglect and/or abandonment). 

Couples Therapy 

In couples therapy sessions, we will work together to explore the “dance” that happens in your dynamic that can lead to conflict, tension and miscommunication. With a trauma-informed lens we will look at how childhood attachment traumas or wounds get activated and explore adaptive resources to address trauma responses. We will mutually agree on goals and identify areas for growth and healthier communication patterns.

 

I provide a safe space to explore sexual identity and intimacy issues, along with an inclusive therapeutic environment supportive of various dynamics of couples varying from monogamy to polyamory and beyond.

According to Jon Kabat-Zinn, “Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally, and then I sometimes add, in the service of self-understanding and wisdom.”

As we focus on trauma during EMDR therapy, mindfulness is a helpful tool for emotional regulation that can be practiced in and out of the office.

Adolescent Therapy

Adolescence can be a challenging phase, and it's important for teenagers to have a supportive space to express themselves. I offer a safe and non-judgmental environment where adolescents can explore their emotions and develop the necessary skills to thrive.
